Jasper & Banff

Probably the most time I spent in a vehicle in one of the most rewarding road trips yet, was the time we decided to visit Jasper and work our way down to Banff along the Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93). What started as something somewhat spontaneous we made our way towards Kamloops, BC where we planned to head north towards Jasper. Little did we know that we would have our first trip anecdote to tell before reaching the city of Kamloops. Distracted by conversations, Steph had forgotten to check the fuel gauge. Worried that we wouldn’t make it, our situation quickly got worst as mobile reception was little to non-existent in the highway. Patiently waiting to receive some sort of signal, we quickly Googled mapped the nearest gas station.

Once topped up, we comfortably made it to Kamloops where we would stay to begin our journey to Jasper the morning after. As mentioned earlier, most of our trip was spent in the vehicle. Once we got to Jasper, we walked around in the alpine town of western Alberta. This would be both our first times in Alberta. We were stoked to be there as we began to see the first glimpses of Alberta’s majestic Rocky Mountains. Eager to see more, we began to make our way down the Icefields Parkway heading towards Lake Louise, our target destination we had travelled this far to see.

The Icefields Parkway is one of the most scenic roads I’ve been to. Beautiful in every direction, surrounded by giant mountains that feel larger than life. A sudden humbling sense of feeling insignificant in size as we passed these giants had me feeling truly grateful to have had the opportunity to be among these giants. Not knowing what lies ahead, building the curiosity to discover what is unknown to us. An itch for adventure that can only be scratched by chasing what we have yet to see and discover when we travel. I knew it would be amazing and loved every moment of it, even if most of them time it was spent driving. I know now that for the next time I’m here, I’ll take my time getting to know you Alberta. Until then…these are my captured memories.
